Vestibular Therapy

We are proud to be part of the most advanced center of excellence for the diagnosis and treatment of vestibular dysfunction. Our clinicians at our Merrillville location work side by side with clinical neurologists from the Neurological Institute. The ability to maintain our body in a balanced position depends on the ability of the brain to integrate sensory input from the inner ear, eyes, joint, muscle, and skin sensors, and the circulatory system. If this sensory integration occurs normally, your body will be able to move in an efficient and safe manner. However, if there is abnormal sensory input to the brain, a variety of symptoms can occur.

Symptoms related to vestibular dysfunction (but not limited to) are:

  • Loss of balance
  • Dizziness
  • Changes in Vision
  • Difficulty Hearing
  • Motion Sickness
  • Disorientation
  • Memory Loss
  • Headaches
  • Fatigue
  • Coordination Issues

During your assessment for vestibular function, one of our specialized therapists will analyze the functioning of the inner ear, eyes, and musculoskeletal system to determine where the dysfunction is occurring. Your therapist will then develop a personalized treatment taking into consideration your lifestyle, medical condition and personal goals. Your therapist will also take the time to make sure you and your family fully understands your condition and course of treatment.
